I've looked online about this issue and still haven't really found how to fix it.
When I publish a new post, I send out a tweet with the URL (easy and no problems with that) and then in Facebook I put an update with the URL of the new post. My issue is that when I insert the URL into facebook that it NEVER shows the thumbnail/featured image from the post, just the title and description. I then cut the text from the update, go back to my main Facebook feed page, go back into my blog FB page and paste the text again and it works. Sometimes I have to repeat this 3 or 4 times for it to work and include the thumbnail OR like now when I'm trying to put an update, it will not put the thumbnail in no matter how many times I've tried.
I put the URL into the Facebook Object Debugger and I really couldn't work out what the issue is with my posts.
WHY on earth does it do this and how do I fix it??
P.S. Does it have anything to do with some messages I've seen about Open graph conflicts or something along those lines?

Simple Social Icons plugin I have as a widget in the Header Right and really forms a large portion of the look of my site so I'm reluctant to get rid of it yet I also don't want to remove WordPress SEO for more obvious reasons.
Suggestions would be great.

If the Simple Social Icons is causing a conflict, I would be inclined to add other social media icons into your Header Right. There are a number of plugins available on the WordPress repository, or if you want something a little more personalized, try looking on Creative Market or Etsy for some unique ones.

Font Awesome includes tons of icon glyphs for social media and other platforms and is VERY easy to integrate. In your case, you'd just add Better Font Awesome (or enqueue the script by hand) and then use a text widget in header right with your icons. Further you get 500+ glyphs for use and it is very easy / light to use anywhere you like.
We do something like this (from a project we've posted on here):
<div class="trc-social"> <ul class="list-inline"> <li><a href="mailto:[email protected]" target="_blank" title="Tablelands Regional Council Email"><i class="fa fa-envelope fa-fw fa-lg"></i></a></li> <li><a href="https://www.facebook.com/TablelandsRegionalCouncil" target="_blank" title="Tablelands Regional Council Facebook"><i class="fa fa-facebook fa-fw fa-lg"></i></a></li> <li><a href="https://twitter.com/CouncilTRC" target="_blank" title="Tablelands Regional Council Twitter"><i class="fa fa-twitter fa-fw fa-lg"></i></a></li> <li><a href="https://plus.google.com/+TablelandsRegionalCouncil/about" target="_blank" title="Tablelands Regional Council Google Plus"><i class="fa fa-google-plus fa-fw fa-lg"></i></a></li> </ul> </div>
